Chef's Table: Sarit Srulovich

Sarit Srulovich is co-founder of Honey & Co and co-author of the bestselling book, Honey & Co: Food from the Middle East. She’ll willingly cross London for a good breakfast, though it is really sleep that’s high priority on days off   


You’re going out for a weekend breakfast. Where do you go?

We love to go to Roast at Borough market.  But as we only have Sundays off, we tend to stay in bed late and cook our own breakfast at home.


What’s great about it and what do you regularly order?

If we wake up in time and head to Roast, we will order their full English or kippers.  At home, we have feasts of eggs, tomatoes, feta, olives and pitta bread.


What is your everyday breakfast?

We are really bad with daily breakfast as we savour every second of sleep, we would normally just have a coffee or grab an apple and then head to work.


Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day?

It should be, and the fact that we are overweight shows that we do it wrong.


Tell us about your best breakfast abroad. Or about the country that does breakfast the best.

We recently went to New York and had a great brunch at a small place called Estella.   Everything was excellent, from the Danish-like roll filled with avocado, bacon and a fried egg, to the beautifully fresh burrata on charred sourdough with a purée of fresh green herbs and jalapeno chillies – that was amazing!


Where is the best place to eat breakfast in London that we won't have heard of?

We love a small place in Clapham Junction called Jack’s, it is an unassuming café and is generous and fun if you are in the area.
